Discover longtime team member and alum Carliss’ inspirational recovery journey:

Throughout our 54 years of service, our team here at CAT has had the honor of witnessing thousands of lives saved after they walked through our doors. One of those lives, Carliss, still walks these halls with us today, giving back to the community what our recovery services have given to her.

After life became too unmanageable for Carliss back in 1997, she made the difficult decision to leave her three children in the care of Children’s Services. Lost and suffering from the disease of addiction, Carliss found the courage to reach out to CAT for help. This was the start of a new life for her and her family.

Following her treatment at CAT, recovery gifted Carliss a newfound motivation in life. Her recovery altered the cycle of generational addiction and she regained custody of her children, Marie, Shawna, and Tevin. In the years since, she has proudly welcomed a grandson and is getting ready to welcome her second grandchild into their family.

Carliss went on to not only obtain her GED but graduated with her Bachelor’s in Social Work. She returned to CAT in 2001 as an employee, where her growth and dedication lead her to her current position as our organization’s IT Manager.

“CAT helped set a foundation for me and my family to move forward and provided stability for us to flourish and succeed in all our goals,” shares Carliss.

This June, she celebrates 27 years in recovery.
