CAT Introduces New Outpatient Fatherhood Group, Bridging The Gap Between Recovery and Parental Services

Friday January 26, 2024

CINCINNATI, January 26, 2024 – Center for Addiction Treatment (CAT) announces the Fatherhood Group, an Outpatient service offering launching January 31st, 2024 for fathers in recovery. Designed to address the identified need for gender-based, trauma-informed Substance Use Disorder care, this new group will provide weekly education and support that explores subjects often absent in standard treatment programming.

Patients will develop knowledge and coping skills as they explore multiple aspects of recovery and parenthood, diving into crucial topics such as the ways that masculinity is portrayed in society, navigating fatherhood, and the impacts of trauma and abuse. With nearly 1 in 3* fathers entering Outpatient substance use disorder treatment noting concerns related to their children, this essential service expansion will meet the recognized, community need for care that closes the existing gap between parenting classes and recovery curriculum.

“The Fatherhood Group was developed in response to an anecdotal need expressed by our local community,” shares VP of Clinical Services, Rachel Johnson, MS, LPCC-S. “Gender-specific clinical groups are not extremely prevalent, with no current availability to access a clinical counseling group specifically focused on fathers in recovery in this region. We hope to open the door for critical conversation and healing for this special population.”

Enrollment is now live, with the group open publicly to new and existing patients who are cisgender or transgender men in parental or guardianship roles. Additional individual, couple, and group family counseling services are actively available through existing programming. Those seeking access to the Fatherhood Group or more information for themselves or a loved one may simply submit a confidential contact request here.
