CAT Introduces Revitalized, No-Cost Care Program for Loved Ones of Those Experiencing Addiction

CINCINNATI, January 23, 2025 – Center for Addiction Treatment (CAT) re-launches the Family Education Group featuring a new, evidence-based Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT) model, enhancing free, public care opportunities for loved ones of those impacted by the disease of addiction. Utilizing a revitalized 12-week curriculum, attendees who participate in this program will be led by a licensed clinician and Certified Peer Supporter to explore communication, positive reinforcement, and behavioral strategies proven to support both the enrollee and their loved one experiencing addiction. The curriculum will guide participants through a range of key CRAFT model tenants, including increasing the concerned significant other’s happiness and functioning while exploring the identified patient’s use and strategies to help said individual seek treatment.
“We strive to provide the most evidence-based curriculum in each of our programs, and CRAFT is proven to increase resiliency and healing for both family members and those with substance use disorders,” shares CAT’s VP of Clinical Services, Rachel Johnson, PhD, LPCC-S. “Our clinicians have taken this change very seriously and excelled in their training to provide an effective, empathetic environment for any person impacted by the disease of addiction. ”
CAT’s decision to incorporate the CRAFT model comes following an identified community need to provide loved ones with a supportive and educational environment that not only positively impacts the family and friends of those seeking support for themselves, but simultaneously uplifts those experiencing the disease of addiction as their loved ones learn how best to support them. In comparison to similar models, those who participated in the curriculum have seen a nearly 30% higher rate of treatment entry for the individual experiencing addiction and reported improved family cohesion on measures of mental health and psychosocial strain.*
