CAT Launches Substance Abuse Mental Illness Group, Addressing Needs of 1 in 50 Americans with Dual Diagnoses

Friday January 26, 2024

CINCINNATI, January 26, 2024 – Center for Addiction Treatment (CAT) announces the impending launch of their Outpatient Substance Abuse Mental Illness Group, available February 2nd, 2024. Also known as the SAMI Group, this service offering will employ an essential, education-emphasized curriculum designed to meet the intersecting needs of those in early recovery seeking ongoing mental health treatment. Utilizing mindfulness and self-compassion-based programming, patients will engage in weekly, two-hour care sessions alongside their peers in a supportive, group setting. Individual counseling will also be made available to those who benefit from additional clinical engagement.

“The SAMI group is an important step toward providing true, clinical care for people living with co-occurring diagnoses,” says VP of Clinical Services, Rachel Johnson, MS, LPCC-S. “Focusing on symptoms unique to those living with severe mental illness and substance use disorders, our highly trained clinical therapists provide excellent guidance and support for healing and growth, despite the unique challenges faced by people living with co-occurring disorders.”

The establishment of the SAMI Group comes at a time of high levels of public need, with a notable 1 in 50* Americans experiencing a co-occurring substance use disorder and mental health diagnosis. This service is just one of the organization’s latest ventures to expand their extensive continuum of care, amplifying community-wide access to life-saving addiction and mental health treatment.

Enrollment is now live. Individuals seeking access to the SAMI Group or more information for themselves or a loved one may simply submit a confidential contact request here.
